About
An honest reference for film shooters.
The Boston Film is an independent database of analog camera film stocks. Every entry is compiled from manufacturer data sheets and hands-on shooting knowledge, with specs, color character, development notes and buying guidance in one place.
Why generated color, not sample photos?
Sample photographs of film stocks are almost always copyrighted by their photographers. Rather than borrow images we cannot license, each film's look is illustrated with a generated color visualization derived from its highlight, mid-tone and shadow rendering, cast, saturation and contrast. It is a schematic of the film's character — not a substitute for shooting a roll yourself.
Accuracy
Specifications follow the manufacturers' published data sheets. Film availability changes often as stocks are discontinued and revived; if you spot something out of date, corrections are welcome.
